When I was in the 6th grade, my math teacher told my parents, “Your daughter just isn’t a math person. She should pursue other dreams.” At only 12, I was basically told that any profession that required math skills was not my calling. While this didn't directly affect my decisions, it certainly imprinted on me. From that point on, I felt like I had something to prove. I started college as a business major, which required me to take Accounting. Ironically, it stuck. Accounting had the reputation of being one of the most difficult majors AND it required a lot of math. Although, I would occasionally remember my 6th grade teacher’s words, I used it as fuel. Of course, I could do math! I could do anything with enough effort. Accounting had an investigative process and a right answer, I liked that! In fact, many of the problems I face each day are simply “math” problems. I made getting a job at one of the “Big Four” my goal. Securing an assistant job where the top executives were Ernst & Young alumni, I worked to make myself their best employee and just 10 months before graduation, I got an offer! After nearly a decade as a CPA, it was time for a change. I went to work for Dell. I learned large-scale project management, business analytics and sales acumen. I honed my skills in logistics and problem-solving. During this time, I also opened a health care services franchise, expanding it to 2 locations in just two years. Growing my own business was exhilarating! Real estate wasn’t a big leap. It was a career that combined all my skills and allowed me to grow and care for my clients on my own terms. Providing exceptional service and expertise is my focus.
