The Eberly Group draws its name and inspiration from Angelina Eberly, a powerful and influential woman in Texas history commonly referred to as the “Savior of Austin.” In 1842, Austin innkeeper Angelina Eberly ruined a plot by Sam Houston to move the archives of the Republic to Houston. Mrs. Eberly fired a cannon into the General Land Office Building in protest and to inform the town. Austinites won the conflict, preserving Austin as the capital of Texas and keeper of the archives.
